Michael Shannon Young, 34, of Cleveland, OH sadly passed away in the early morning of April 30, 2024. Michael was born in Montgomery, Alabama on February 20, 1990 to formerly married Eddie Dwain Young and Paulyn Glasper. Michael grew up in Alexander City, AL and fondly remembered his family home on Pine Street, with the dream to purchase it back one day for himself.
He lived in Montgomery, AL and attended Jeff Davis High School. Most of his later years of life were spent in Cleveland, OH where he cultivated many meaningful friendships and relationships. One of his most proud, precious, and treasured life moments was the birth of his son, Elijah Khalifah Young, on January 12, 2012. Michael deeply loved his “mini-me”, who was a hands-on dad from birth.
Michael cherished the memories of playing video games, traveling to Huntsville Space Center, going to Adventure Land and Dave & Busters, ordering and eating at Elijah’s favorite restaurant (McDonald’s: quarter pounder with cheese combo) and other activities during family vacations with Elijah in the last few years.
He worked at Dille Road Recycling (a family owned & operated industrial scrap metal managing company) as a scale buyer, primarily working in the warehouse and outdoors. Additionally, he was the one who “sealed” the deals and recorded and maintained the financial transactions on a daily basis. Because of his charismatic appeal and sharp intellect he quickly became a valued asset to the company. Many of his friends and co-workers have referred to him as “one of the smartest guys I’ve ever known”, “a natural and debater”, and he was known for his endless supply of “useless facts”. He possessed many natural talents, such as he was mechanically-inclined (working with his hands tinkering on cars) and a good musical ear (loved dancing and music of all kinds). Michael had an open and giving heart with a sensitive soul, generous with his time and resources, especially for younger ones, who affectionately called him, “Doughboy”.
Throughout his life he embodied kindness and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of friends and family.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Paulyn and his father, Dwain; his sister, Mkaila (Will) Harris; his son, Elijah; his grandmothers, Jean Glasper (maternal) and Lorene Young (paternal); his first cousin who was like a brother, Dwight “Shug” Tuck Jr.; a dear and close friend, Ashley Jarvis, along with her children: Jaylah, Aaron, Manny, Ashton, and Connor; Errica Germany and her children: Isaiah, London, Jade, and Amina; many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Paul Glasper (maternal) and Jon L. Young (paternal).
Although he left so soon and unexpectedly, Michael left a lasting impression on not only his family but everyone he encountered in his life. He will truly be missed, but not forgotten.
