Samuel David McKenzie

Samuel David McKenzie, born December 18, 1950, passed away at Beachwood Pointe Care Center on Wednesday, August 8, 2024. He was the fourth of six children of the late Glennie and Arilla (Curry) McKenzie in Mobile, Alabama. After the family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, Sam attended Shaw High School then shortly after served in the United States Army. He worked for Thrifty Rental Service as a shuttle driver for many years. Sam loved classic cars and driving. He was an avid sports fan! His favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved to sing and often sang karaoke around the city with his brother Dwight. He loved to listen to old school R&B music, one of his favorite songs was Love and Happiness by Al Green. Sam was a strong and independent God-fearing man who loved to laugh and have fun with his family and friends. Sam was dependable and responsible for and took on the task of raising his granddaughters after the sudden passing of his daughter Jennifer McKenzie. Sam was dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren, and had a special relationship with all his siblings. 

He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Dickens) McKenzie of Cleveland, a son, Samuel Dwayne McKenzie of Columbus, Ohio, a sister Patricia(McKenzie) Baker (Douglas) of Cleveland; grandchildren, Ariel Payne, Kazmir McKenzie, Keeley Gonzalez, Adrienne and Aarin Derouen, Jhamilla, Jayla and Jeniah McKenzie, Kylan McKenzie and Princeton McKenzie; stepchildren, Katrina Dickens, Willie Dickens, Angela Dickens, Rachelle Dickens a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by Jennie McKenzie (stepmother); his daughter Jennifer McKenzie, his brothers, Ephriam (McKenzie) Bahar, Curly McKenzie, Robert McKenzie, and Dwight McKenzie. 

Memorial Service to be held at Euclid Lutheran Church 431 E.260th Euclid Ohio 44132. August 23 2024 11am to 1pm
